23rd IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion, 7 - 11 April 2019, Rotorua, Aotearoa New Zealand
Rotorua is home to many quintessential Kiwi experiences, from white water rafting and offroad 4WD to spine tingling Māori cultural performances. We encourage you to take the opportunity while attending the Conference to immerse yourself in Māori culture and exhilarating outdoor adventure in Rotorua.

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, there will be activities as part of the official social programme of the Conference. We have designed a range of activities to cover the best Rotorua has to offer whilst allowing you to engage and network with other attendees. You can book and pay for any of these experiences during registration, or email iuhpe@tcc.co.nz if you have already registered.

As well as these official activities, you can of course make your own arrangements for your evenings and there is a multitude of activities for all ages, interests and budgets. 

Monday 8th April

Evening of spectacular views and fine dining at Skyline Gondola

Enjoy the spectacular view over Rotorua city and lakeside from the top of Mt Ngongotaha. On arrival, you will ride the Gondola to the Stratosfare Restaurant where you can take in the stunning views over the city and Lake Rotorua.

Stratosfare Restaurant is home to some of New Zealand’s award winning cuisine, you will enjoy the stunning array of freshly prepared buffet and cooked to order dishes which feature locally sourced seafood, meat and produce.

Watch the view change as the sun goes down and the city lights come on, at the end of the meal, guests will depart via the Gondola ride again and be returned to your accommodation.

Evening for the Adventurous & Adrenalin Junkies at Off Road NZ

Rotorua is well known for its adrenalin inducing activities, join us for an evening to celebrate this side of Rotorua. Get ready to experience a night in beautiful New Zealand bush whilst experiencing a range of activities including jet boating, monster 4x4 thrill ride, claybird shooting or archery. During the evening, you will feast on a typical New Zealand BBQ style dinner in the Bush Camp overlooking the lake and native bush.

Tuesday 9th April

Evening of Māori Culture and Cuisine at Te Puia

Set amongst the background of Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley, a night at Te Puia will be a memorable and unique evening for visitors to Rotorua and New Zealand. On arrival, all guests will be welcomed with a Powhiri and escorted onto the marae for performance of Māori song and dance. 

Following this, guests will depart for three unique experiences: 

1) Te Wharekai: Dine in the newly developed restaurant on a banquet of authentic Māori cuisine (kai). After dinner you will be able to tour the geothermal valley and witness the Pohutu Geyser

2) Geyser Marquee: An intimate experience to dine overlooking the Pohutu Geyser under starry skies whilst indulging in a superb meal of traditionally inspired cuisine, including watching your thermally cooked entrée being removed from one of the naturally occurring steam cookers. Following your meal you can explore the geothermal valley and get up close to the Pohutu Geyser.

3) Ngararatuatara Marquee: An exclusive opportunity to watch the chef prepare your meal of local produce (such as mussels, prawns and vegetables) in flax and poach them in the geothermal spring in front of your eyes before serving straight to your table. Following your meal you can explore the geothermal valley and get up close to the Pohutu Geyser.

Wednesday 9th April

Evening of Movie Magic at HobbitonTM

This will be a not to be missed evening for fans of the Lord of the RingsTM and The HobbitTM movies or for anyone with an interest in the making of movies. The magical set is located 45 minutes from Rotorua and on arrival guests will be equipped with handheld lanterns and given a tour of The Shire with fascinating stories and anecdotes about the filming of the trilogies.

Following the tour you can enjoy a taste of The ShireTM in the famous The Green Dragon InnTM, before moving into the Party Marquee where you will indulge in a feast fit for a Hobbit!
