Welcome to IUHPE 2019

7 - 11 April 2019

As we prepare to welcome you to the conference, we reflect on the events in Christchurch last week. We know when tragic events affect our community, it affects us all in different ways. We stand with those in that city in the South Island of our country, where a senseless act of violence hit home for all of us no matter where we are in our globalised society.

We mourn those who were lost and remain firm in our stance to promote peace and wellbeing, and eliminate all forms of prejudice that lead to hatred and violence in the world. Times like this makes more imminent the principles and theme of our conference and health promotion, that within the strengths of our unity in diversity, we work together across the world to break down barriers to peace and equity for the wellbeing of all. We are a ‘one world, one people, one health.’

We want to assure you this tragedy will not diminish the spirit and intent of our conference, along with our collective safety and wellbeing.

Ngā mihi, ngā whakataukī, ngā reo pōwhiri, ngā manu kōrero o tēnā rohe o tēnā rohe tēnā koutou. He mihimihi mahana tēnei i runga i ngā āhuatanga o te rā me ngā tini manaakitanga kei mua te aroaro. Nō reira tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā tātou katoa.

As Co-Chairs of the 23rd IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion, we are pleased to announce the coming of this prestigious event to New Zealand. It is a tremendous honour for the Health Promotion Forum of New Zealand (HPF) to be hosting the Conference in association with the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE). Without doubt the IUHPE world conferences are most significant occasions that bring together those dedicated to health promotion from across the globe. For newcomers and old timers alike, these meetings every three years define the “state of the art” in health promotion practice, research, and theory. It also represents a unique platform to showcase New Zealand’s innovation and excellence in health promotion to a global audience, along with our country’s natural beauty, culture and hospitality.

We look forward to welcoming you to Rotorua, New Zealand from 7-11 April 2019.

 Ngā mihi,

Sione Tuitahi,
